Woohoo, after 8 months on the dole it finally happened, exactly what I wanted (Biotechnician/analyst), wages are more than I was expecting with pension/medical thrown in aswell, cant believe it tbh, Im still buzzing, starting next Wednesday, have to move acrooss the country and everything but a new start was exactly what I wanted :p

Huge thanks to everyone on here for all the help and advice, my new CV and interview/hunting techniques came directly from this forum so very grateful for that, cant believe it tbh, hang in there anyone still looking (and rewrite your CV).

Good to hear you got a job. Although. I don't like the idea of being 8 months on the dole, studying biotech in DCU myself..

Well I was very lazy up until Christmas with a terrible CV but when I actually started looking properly with a new CV instead of in a half-arsed way it only took about 2 months, dont worry about it, Biotech is the future.

Good someone agrees it was insensitive of the OP.

On the bright side the dole scroungers will be happy, more free money for them

Good thread! I got a job too. Delighted. Just spent the past year researching, getting new qualifications, networking, living off a bank loan, going without food at least one night per week for the past ten weeks, and interning unpaid; but it's all been worth it. I love my new job profession and company.

To anyone who is thinking about reskilling, or who feels that there is no hope right now, I was where you are 12 months ago. You can turn the situation around. Do your research, form a goal, develop a strategy to achieve your objectives, and network.

Well done Lux and Tremelo and thanks everybody else.

6 months on I absolutely love my job, Im still a bit traumatised by the horrible year I spent sitting on the dole in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and no money to do it, especially during that freezing Winter. My confidence is still really shakey especially meeting new people, it was total black despair with the non-stop bad news everywhere and you genuinely do start to believe that this is your life forever now, Im getting a bit teary-eyed thinking about it, God knows what it must be like for the people with kids and responsibilities.

Just hang in there everybody still looking, another bad Winter on the way now (Im a fairly depressed person usually but winter really gets me down) but when you find what you want its like a ton of weight lifting off you, I just threw most of my stuff in a skip outside a neighbours house and started again, best feeling in the world.
