Urgent Insurance question - no claims proof problem

Hi folks, bit of a mess going on at the minute.

Basically, I was with AXA from Jan 2009 to July 2010, I would have obtained a years no claim in jan 2010.

In july 2010 I moved to quinn straight from AXA. Quinn were given my proof of no claims from AXA.

I moved to FBD yesterday as I got a new car. Now thing is, I told FBD have 2 years no claims which I do (jan 2009 - jan 2011). They set up the insurance and said I must get proof of the 2 years no claims from Quinn.

Here's where the problem is, Quinn say I have only 1 years NCB because I did not stay with them a full year.

How is this? Quinn were given proof in July 2010 that I have never claimed.

    I though NCB is cumulative.

    Anybody any opinions? :)

Your NCB is calculated on a full year of claim free driving on a policy. Your policy with Quinn started last July but you switched to FBD yesterday which means that you only had the policy with Quinn for just over 7 months so it doesn't count as a full year which makes sense. Cancelling a policy prematurely before it expires means you loose the NCB for the whole year.

You'll know the next time. Did you get much of a refund from Quinn? I'm insured with them at the moment but might have to cancel my policy a few months before it expires.

Try get a supervisor in FBD, I've seen it honoured before although history was all with the same company. Although technically you don't have the 2 years NCB as it's broken you do have 2 years claims free driving in your own name. If you get a letter from AXA to advise dates and claims free and the same from Quinn see will FBD try keep the biz. It's a longshot but you never know.

You might be better off financially if you just lay it up or suspend the policy, get a refund after 28 days and you still earn your NCB if you don't have a max one already.

If it's a first year of policy with them it won't really calculate, as you probably won't get anything back. Cancellation rates are tremendous.
But if you already had a policy with them for a full year, and then renewed it for next year, you can cancel it anytime, with full refund of remining period. Probably they might charge you some fee though.

In first year, it's much more wise instead of cancelling, just suspend your policy. Then you will keep it until it expires, get a refund for suspension period, and collect full years NCB.
The only thing is that you can't do it if you want to buy another policy straight ahead.

What I obtained my first policy in Ireland (it was with Hibernian then) I showed them a proof of my NCT earned in Poland. It was over 6 years, but most of it was not full years.
Like I had one policy for 16 months, another for 7 months, next one for 23 months, and so on.
Thay in hibernian then didn't say a thing and accepted full NCB.

Thanks for all the input, I was just onto FBD there and they said that if I can get proof of the the length of time I was with AXA and Quinn and that there were no claims my NCB will still stand. It doesn't need to be exactly 1 year with each company, like in my case; 18 months with AXA and 8 months with quinn.

    Danger averted :)

I'm in my 3rd year with Quinn now and have 6 years NCB. There's a chance I'll be emigrating with about 3 months remaining on my policy so want to get back as much as I can.

If this is the 3rd year they will most likely refund whatever is left on policy.
Check in your policy document or give them a call.

The question here is how ease it will be to get a proof from AXA and Quinn that you were with them for a certain period of time.

won't be an issue tell them you want a free formatted letter with dates and confirmation of no claims and not a standard NCB letter off the system.
