Not on UPC or anyother provider - only on your TV if you have a saorview compatible TV and a suitable aerial

Total waste of licence payer's money.

IIRC there is a "must carry" obligation in the DTT legislation that means that UPC are supposed to have them.

Doesn't apply to Sky since they are not regulated in this jurisdiction.

Saorview, will replace the current analogue service which viewers receive through roof aerials, TV top aerials or through their cable service providers.

Since when is Saorview a replacement for analogue cable tv services. Super journalism right there.

Well yes, I bought mine from Pixmania which is the French model which is compatable with Ireland! Unlike the ones you buy in Harvey Normans/PC World etc!

That will not be a bone of contention because many people in the Republic have Sky because of bad analogue reception of RTÉ and unavailability of TV3 on most relays. Most of them will drop their subscriptions soon because Saorview will bring not only TV3 but 3e as well as better RTÉ reception to 98% of viewers in the Republic with the remainder getting RTÉ on Saorsat.

    Must carry = RTE 1 / 2 ,TV3 & TG4 only

(Technically BBC 1 & 2 for a fee but thats another story)

I don't believe that the 'new' RTE channels are must carry

I don't see that happening - the bone of contention is going to be the lack of DTT reception in eg Donegal, and that afaik a second dish shall be needed to pick up saorsat.

Either way, without BBC (Or ITV) DTT is dead in the water.

I wonder if UPC will time their launch with a relaunch of the own EPG slots. There isn't room in the news slot 201-207 for example. We'll find out in May.

You are mistaking it as a competition to Sky or UPC. It's not. It's simply a replacement of Analogue.

Since it has Widescreen, HD, later Interactive, a few more channels and much better coverage and free Satellite fill in, it's going to be more successful than Analogue.

Analogue is getting turned off end of 2012. Less than two years.

Rubish.... All you need is a Subscription Free Sky Box or Freesat Box/TV and you have all the channels in Digital (and many in HD) for Free!!!
If you use a combi box you have them all on the one System.

Personally, I have a PanasonicTV with build in Freesat and SaorView. I'm planning on adding a Hard Disk soon so I can record from both. (Just can't record two channels at once, etc)

As for people in Donegal and the border regions. They are the lucky ones. Buy themselves a Freeview+HD box and the can get evertyhing on the one EPG and record, etc, etc. The only constraint is that Series Link won't work for Saorview.

It will take a while for people to see the benifit of Saorview..... The clue is in the title... It's SAOR!!!
