    Hi all,

I bought a second hand car a week ago and am still waiting on the log book so I can tax it. Do I still need to report it off the road to the Gardai so I don't have to pay back tax? Will the log book say how long it was off the road?

Also, I registered the car to my Mum's house in Kilkenny as I'm still in rented accommodation. Can I tax the car in Limerick or do I have to tax it in Kilkenny?

    Thanks!

The car is not registered to you until the form comes back to you, so you wouldn't have to pay any tax until then and you will have to tax where ever the car is registered i.e Kilkenny. It will say on the form when the date of sale was too.

Are you certain about the first bit? I'm pretty sure it is registered to the new owner from the date entered on the form by seller/buyer.

You are correct. From the date that the new owner and previous owner signed on the logbook is the date the car is in the new owners name
