I was walking along Abbey St this evening c. 7.30 away from O'Connell St towards Arnotts. A guy cycles onto the pavement ahead of me, and drops his bike to the ground. He takes hold of a bike that was secured to a railing with some sort of cable lock. He stretched the bike away from the railing and with 1 or 2 reefs of the bike the lock disintegrated into bits, as easy as that! Off he cycled on this 'new' bike. This happened in the space of 5 to 10 secs and all just as I was walking past. Couldn't quite believe what I was seeing and didn't feel good not doing anything but didn't know what I could have done to be honest. :( Didn't see what make of bike it was, but looked like an MTB. He obviously knew the weakness of the lock in question just cycling past and was happy to ditch whatever crap bike he had for the one in question. Shows the value of a good lock or indeed locks.
