    Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a good place (in Dublin) to go to get a set of 18 inch wheels balanced? I'm looking to get a decent job done.

Would advance pitstop be a safe bet? Although i'd expect them to be a bit pricey.

I'm living in D6 and working inside in town near the IFSC.

Near the IFSC, just go the the Advance on Townsend St.

Have a look at United Tyre in Donnybrook.

They're prices are really good for fitting new tyres and so I'd guess they do good rates on balancing and alignment too.

I fell in there once by accident when I was planning to go to FastFit next door.

Prices vary in different Advance branches, and Townsend St is the most expensive I've found.

Me: "I'm looking for 3 new tyres"
    (Yer man has a look)
Him: "Is this a fleet car? Or private"
    Me: "Private"
Him (sucking in breath): "Come on and we'll have a look"

Next thing you know he's offering me fitted Sportivas (!!!) for 115 a corner. For mid-range options he wanted 135-145. No mention of balancing or alignment in that price.

    Right
    Off

Don't get me wrong. I've given Advance a bit of business over the years, in Raheny, Walkinstown and JFK business park. All were excellent and I got a decent enough price. But I don't appreciate someone trying to take me for a chump, and that's what happened in Townsend St.

Yes I have heard that the townsend branch can be pricey. I'd like to avoid that place if possible- the last time I went in to ask about pricing on another job all I got was smart answers from the guy working there.

Has anybody any dealings with Scully auto care centre near clontarf road?

Considering the wholly inadequate battery they fitted to my car the last time I was in there, I wouldn't trust them to make me a cup of tea let alone balance my wheels.

Can't comment on anything non-wheel related. And as I said, didn't get balancing or alignment done. They seem simple enough jobs though, with the equipment these places have.

I wouldn't let any Tyre gaff change a spark plug in my car to be honest. I'm main dealer all the way. Call it a waste of money but I only shop around for tyres and wheel and headlight alignment.

Personally - I've had nothing but fantastic service from Advance Townsend Street in the past, and they've helped the missus out on a few occasions when she was stuck in town with a puncture.

A friend (Conor) works in Scully Autocare and he's done a lot of work on my cars so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Think he's also in charge of their 4 wheel alignment set up, which some say is better than Dave McCann's.

+1 for united tyres in donnybrook

i find the service excellent. also, when you buy a new tyre or tyres, they do 4-wheel alignment as part of the package. i haven't seen that anywhere else

If you're looking for somewhere near where you live, there's a tyre place in Harold's Cross just on the south side of the canal bridge - take the 2nd left heading southbound towards the Y junction and it's just there off the main road, you can't miss it.

Can't remember the name unfortunately but I have used them for wheel balancing and they were sound.

Better to support local independent places like this if you can IMO as opposed to the franchise places
