Enda Kenny as leader...

    On a lighter note...

I'm voting for a new Government (at last), I will be voting FG, FG, Labour, Labour as my 4 and only preferences, BUT, despite hoping for a FG majority and a single Government party, for the simple reason of implementation of policy without half cooked plans and arguments over procedure, I really can't stand Enda Kenny.

Is it just me or are FG unlucky to have such a man as leader at this imperative moment in time when they could cement there place as the nations biggest party?

And I don't mean he's a bad leader by his capability and I believe he will be a very effective Taoesach, I just mean him personally.

I can't stand his attitude on debates, I can't stand his voice, I can't stand how he shouts all the time and bangs his fist, I can't stand so much of the things he chooses to be...

I just think he's like a cartoon character, and has fake public profile based on what advisers tell him to act.

I just picture him in his Y-Fronts in front of a full length mirror at home banging his fist and "talking tough"...

    It's a sobering though :o

I think he's an intelligent man and a good politician and an honest man, but my god I can't stand him, and I feel, sadly, that will be something that holds this Government back...

Who would you have preferred as leader from FG? Or even from Labour? I really like Rabbite and Gilmore, even Quinn from Labour, from FG I probably would much prefer James O'Reilly as leader...partly because I think he is a fantastic politician and a very capable man, and partly because he reminds me of Brendan Grace.

Another FG candidate I can't stand is Leo Vardakar. He just comes across as a smug arsehole! haha

I wont go into FF candidates I can't stand, but there are many. Although they're not my first preference, I think on the Charisma stakes, Labour probably have the best personalities.

Are there any candidates you can't stand for unusual or non-sensical reasons?

    Enda's coming across very statesmanlike.
He has stepped it up a lot recently.
    I'm impressed.

we're fooked if he's nxt teashuk, "check it out on www.finegael" the worst answer I've ever heard from a polytician, but then again we're fooked even if houdini were to get the job.

Much of the dislike of EK comes from the medias disgraceful anti EK agenda, now going on for some years. (just look at vb last night)
Oh he's no good on the telly blah blah, as if this is all that counts.
I't all down to the medi agenda I'm afraid and is unlikely to subside any time soon.
He should just ignore them as much as possible. People sided with him when rejected vb's offer on the first debate, correctly considering vbs attitude, oh and by the way what happended to the empty chair.

You should have just seen him on the six one. One of the worst performances I've seen from a politician.

If cowen is your yardstick I can understand why you're impressed, but that was an unmitigated disaster of an interview. And the sad thing is that I'll be voting FG because the alternatives are even worse.

I agree with you Enda doesn't fill me with the joys of summer but the team behind him does make me feel very confident that they have the skill sets to try and get this country back on track and their policies tick most of what I want from the next Government.

I also believe if they had another in charge they would romp home at this election but you have to respect that they did democratically have a vote on their leadership last year.

If he hadn't been direct and one of the leaders involved in the ruinous governments for the last 14 years then maybe but the fact is he was and even worse he is the man that spawned the monster that is the HSE.

Enda Kenny is a far better choice than Michael "The IMF are not coming" Martin.

I have to wonder how the most powerful man in the world will see us Irish when we vote in a man as Taoiseach who used the 'n' word in a joke in 2002. When he looks at the history of that man's party and sees it had fascist roots I don't think he will be very happy about it.

I've been turned off EK because he refused to come on to any TodayFm shows. I'm an avid Todayfm listener and to not even have a phone conversation with either Ray or Matt I think was very poor. Todayfm has one of the biggest listenerships in the country and the impression it's left on me and the rest of listeners cant be good.

i really like micheal mairtin. but sure everyone loved bertie and look where that got us (i never did, i thought he looked like a frog with too much makeup).

gilmore, everytime i see him on tv he looks kinda squat or something. SIT UP man and make yourself known when you're debating. a bit late now i'm sure but i will still vote labour in the end.

Can you back up your claim with a reputable source otherwise I would ask mods to delete this.

If Obama respects democracy then I am sure that he will be fine about it. Just because you may not share the same ideology as another head of state doesn't mean they are "unhappy" about it. Isnt that democracy?

What about when Obama joked about Special Olympic athletes on the Jay Leno show a few years ago? Should we demand that Kenny refuse to meet him beause of this? Seriously, get a grip.

Edit to add. It was an awful thing to do, its not funny in any way either. Also when the first leader of your party was a fascist supporter it makes it a hell of a lot more serious because people do put those things together. Personally I think he is an awful choice to lead this country. I can think of many better Fine Gael members for that job.

2002? Are you serious? Thats 9 years ago. Get over it.

Policies and such aside, I find him a bit irritating alright. His voice just sounds condescending. I don't know if he means to be, but when I hear him I just feel like he's talking down to anyone listening.

Also, going by the Fine Gael game on their site, he's a murderous lunatic with a traffic cone phobia. I can't get behind that.

Could be worse, the first leader of Fianna Fail started a civil war.

Enda Kenny reminds me of a prissy wooden puppet - even when he shouts it has the effect of someone pulling his strings too tightly.

I really hope he relaxes into human mode after the election OR he might just disappear again like he did before Christmas.

Jeez, did you even read the article. One, there was no malice intended and he was telling a story of a friend who died that day of a story he heard 20 years previously and the word n*****r was said originally by the black barman.

Obviously very very unwise to use that language. Very foolish but really a bit of a non story. Enda can land his foot in it sometimes. A bit like Dubya or Biden.
