I've been doing my nut searching the usual sites to find a really nice hotel in Ireland. Does anyone have an first-hand experience of nice luxury, welcoming staff and pretty surroundings?

It would help if you gave an indication of your budget and preferred area.

Try googling "Tablet Hotels" and then searching their site for Ireland. Their places tend to be interesting and often quirky, and they give an idea of the sort of clientele who are likely to enjoy the particular hotel.

You can always go off to another site to make the booking.

Thanks. I'll take a look there.

I've no preference on area or price.

Inchydoney Hotel in Cork. I've never been into swish hotels but went once and was converted. Have saved up to go back there for a weekend each year since.
Its fabulous from every angle, rooms, food, spa, surroundings (on the beach).
    Highly recommended.

The george hotel in limerick! tis a classy place! il never forget being up til six in the morning drunk as a skunk and talking ****e in lobby with the lads! staff are great too! Remember one of the girls lost her handbag and camera and she got it back the following morning by one of the staff who went to the bother of pulling out cctv footage when he first found them himself.
Its only downfall is that its in limerick to begin with!

Most of the hotels above mentioned are 4 star not five star properties. There is a big difference and a big step up in terms of service when you go 5 star.

cliffhouse in ardmore gets my vote, lovely area, lovely 5 star hotel, [westport plaza is only 4 star...] the cliffhouse also has a michelin star restaurant in the hotel.

Failing that, for a city break, theres hayfield manor in cork-absolutely superb.

Don't rule out ashford castle in cong co mayo either,it's a peach!

The Cliffhouse is outstanding in every way. The Park in Kenmare is also fantastic as is the Aghadoe Heights in Killarney(though the building is not the most attractive from the outside.)Monart spa is not strictly a hotel but the staff, food, setting all combine to make it a wonderful experience.

Rathmullen house hotel in Donegal deserves a mention

Lovely hotel, lovely surroundings and a superb restaurant. The staff there can't do enough for you and yet it is incredibly laid back.

Te Ritz Carlton in Powerscourt is amazing. http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/Powerscourt/Default

We stayed there a few years back and the scenery is stunning, not to mention the spa and the Gordon Ramsey restaurant.

    Highly recommended!
