2009 Octavia vRS CR170 DPF

Just looking for a bit of advice on this one to try and be as informed as possible when talking to the garage (who are really excellent in this).

Last Saturday I noticed that my car was a little slower to react (seemed like the turbo was late kicking in and there was a little lumpiness at the point where it usually would). I didnt drive it on Sunday but I did on monday (maybe 10 miles city driving). My usual drive is a 75 mile commute on motorways and national roads. Monday evening the DPF and glow plug lights came on. Called the dealer first thing Tuesday morning and told them and they said it was safe to drive it so drop it in whenever I could. They took it in straight away and gave me a car to use.

They ran some tests and sure enough the DPF was blocked. They took it out on the road and tried to do a forced regeneration on it. It didnt work so they ordered a new DPF. They just called to say that its fitted and they took it out on the road. They noticed that it was quicker than the norm for a vRS. They left it idle for 10 mins and the DPF clogged up again but this time it cleared when they did a forced regen.

They ran a test and it came back saying that the ECU may have been manipulated, i.e. a remap. I only have the car a month and have had no work done to it whatsoever bar fitting a sat nav that was a plug and play Skoda unit. There is obviously a root cause here that they are trying to identify. The car has just under 43k km.

Anyone like to hazard a guess? Answers on a postcard...:)

Enjoy the remap and get your DPF deleted, no more issues :D

Joe Power in chippedire can do it, he can also scan your car to see if it's remaapped and it it is you can get a rolling road run done to see what power/torque it's putting out.

Joe is an expert when it comes to remapping diesels, and petrols in my experience.

It's in the dealers now though for the work under warranty so it won't be leaving there until it's properly fixed. If the dpf had gone out of warranty I would have gone the dpf delete route alright.

I'm more concerned about there being a bad remap on the car and the damage that may have done to other components like turbo, injectors, dmf etc. And why is the new dpf clogging up too.

I would assume that they are trying to get out of a warranty claim by saying that the car has been altered/chipped.

The way they have told you the second dpf blocked, 10 minutes & idling, thats just not possible.

Have them check the DPF differential pressure sensor and its pipework. It may be faulty in that it is reporting a DPF issue when there isn't one. I have seen those sensors give problems on other cars before.

Its pretty unlikely that such a new car has had a remap - usually owners wait till its out of warranty until getting a map - to avoid any dealer wiggle room. Being all cynical - I would say that they are trying to avoid fixing the problem.

What a load of rubbish. Sound like they are fishing for a reason not to fix your problem.

No they are standing over everything. I have been assured that there will be no cost to me and that they won't leave it out with a problem. The dealers been saying that since the very start.

To be honest I thought it was a lot quicker than 170 brake would suggest but just assumed it was torque. It's a main dealer and they sell quite a few of them and know them well. Afaik the guy working on it has one of them too.

Cheers for the advice so far lads, it's giving me stuff to google and questions to ask. Much appreciated:)

Not so much the case anymore, I've seen a few 10 and 11 reg's in being mapped by Joe Power.

The cynic in me though does think the mechanics are just saying 'oh this car is mapped, that must be the problem

Just said I'd give an update. Got the car back Saturday morning. 1500km on and all is well.

Turned out it had been remapped and this caused the dpf regen cycle to go haywire. It's well warrantied anyway but I have a deal done regarding all that side of things that I'm very happy with. Also i won't be worrying about the next service.

Dealer were excellent and even called yesterday to make sure that I was completely happy with it all.

    Zero cost to me too:D

    only saw this thread now
Knew they would sort it for you in the end, and yes, They do sell quite a few of them.
My one is going in for a fist service in an a couple of weeks even though it has the longlife oil and supposed to be 30k servicing..!
I am it done at 15k to be on the safe side.
I thought there felt to be a bit of a delay in my one today,
I put this down to driving like a Nun last week doing an economy test.
Decided to give it a squirt of throttle to "clear it"
2 guys sitting on the side of the Motorway in a Silver Mondeo ST220 didnt think 146 in a 120 zone was not one bit funny
