    Hi
    Saw a car (00 Ka, 43k miles, 1600e) i'm thinking about buying.
I'm a student and live in dublin and the only time I would need the car is to get to dublin and back from home every weekend and for when i'm at home to get around.
Wondering if it is worthwhile to buy the car, are Ka a good make and is 1600 good value?
    Thanks!

It would want to be exceptional to be worth €1,600, it being 11 years old.

    Get it well checked out.

Ford are a good make, the Ka can be good or bad, it depends on how it was maintained.

I would say a good one would be worth €1,200 max., for that age.

The sills will more than likely be rotted out of a KA.

Cars are very expensive to run when you only need one at the weekend. Do you need your own car when you're at home or could you borrow one? Is home served by good bus/rail links? My advice is to add up the projected annual running costs, add at least 50%, and then decide whether it's worth it for you.

Good chance it has no ABS. You don't realise the value of ABS until you really need it! Dunno about airbags, maybe a drivers one?

The Ka is a grand little bus
    - light on fuel
    - nippy enough
    - requires little to no servicing aside from oil changes etc.
    - parts are cheap, tires come in sizes that are not dear
    - insurance is cheap, motor tax not too bad.

Make sure the heater blows both hot and cold though when the engine is warm, if they are asking €1600 relaistically you could get it for €1200/€1400 ish with a bit of haggling.

Ideally the closer it has to a 2 year NCT the better :)

A 1.25 litre Fiesta is a better car though and you should find a good one for €1600 :)

You would probably buy this for around €1500:

2 years younger and has 12 months NCT.

But as already pointed out, buying a car is only one financial aspect of car ownership, you then have to run it. Tax, insurance, fuel and maintenance all cost money too.

yeah, that 1.25 zetec fiesta should be on everyones list.

that ka is way over priced, my 2001 mondeo is in great condition, just flew thru the nct a few days ago. I dont even know if i would get 2k for it, and its a zetec model.
