I think websites like votematic.ie that let you find out which party is compatible with your views by answering questions
    are really open to abuse.
The program code could be written to favour certain parties or the writers could interpret the parties manifesto incorrectly.
The current ones are probably legit as they are the first but it wouldn’t surprise me if there were dubious programs to follow.

Yes, of course they are. But, voteamatic at least is fairly transparent in terms of where they got their information and you are welcome to dispute any conclusion they have come to.

In fact, it's hard to see how they could be any more open about it!!

Was there anything in particular that struck you about the site?

A fair few people have told me that they thought they were Fine Gael voters, but after doing votematic it seems that they are more in line with Labour policies, and they were trying to decide how to vote on Friday on the basis of that!

My problem is the code writers of the program have too much sway in interpreting a political parties policy.
For example if you only answer the first question
Should the government renegotiate Ireland's debt repayments?
Fine Gael have said they want to do this but Labour gets a 2 and FG gets a 1.
Both parties have argued strongly that they want to renegotiate Ireland's debt repayments.

I noticed on Votetamic that I didnt know ANYONE that got any way of a high number with FF. I started to question it after a while when I saw everyone coming out with a range of results yet all consistently had a massive negative FF figure.
as a matter of fact Im going to actually try get a high FF figure now(too much time on my hands)

edit: ill eat humble pie, looks like I was wrong, but I did notice that the way the questions are asked would make it very hard for someone to get that figure....
    FF 19
    FG -4
    Lab -13
    GP 6
    SF -15

yea but the hardest thing for them must be the fact that certain parties will say anything to hang onto seats, even if there record is that their actions are exactly opposite to what they are saying.

It's be better if you could click a few boxes first, namely:
do you want a crooked, theiving, self serving party that will not answer to any actions, and will not be held accountable? (y/n)
do you want a party that has links to terrorist activities? (y/n)

The simple fact of the matter is, that although FF might be singing the right song now - I've seen the crap they've pulled. I've watched them flush our bright future down the crapper - and for what? A decent health care system? A deadly educational sysem?? A flawless transport network???
We got fuck all from them.
And I'd be a fool to give them my vote, regardless of their manifesto - yet the website can only go on manifestos.

For those who can't find it: Votomatic.ie
