I had one unannouned! Was at work when he rang me.

Think there were 2 of them..they seem to go around together.

1 guy checked that all calves were tagged and had a look at the cattle cards.

The other lad was there for REPs and he was out checking land parcels and habitats.

I had some trouble with habitats for REPs but I have it sorted now.

I also had 1 calf that i hadnt tagged but when he came back to check the cattle cards I had him tagged.:pac:

Unannounced inspection December 2009: measured the slurry tanks, checked all the animal tags & passports, checked chemicals store, checked feed receipts. Took about 2 hours.

No I stayed at work. In some cases I was actually happier not having to meet them

He did actually say he was coming back to check cattle cards so he told me he'd be coming back on a certain date and my mother was at home the day he came.

Grand, everything went ok. two guys called and were mainly looking at slurry storage facilities, pollution control and maps. 1 guy measured all sheds, slurry tanks and other tanks and the other walked the farm with my father checking the maps and boundaries. They were easy to deal with and pointed out 1 or 2 things we should do! the stress of it over for a while :)

were they being awkard or being reasonable with you about things they pointed out for you to do and did they come back to check up on you.

Never saw the advantage of an Inspector being awkward. I've had one myself when I first started. Getting someones back up has to be one of the most counter productive things they can do. Fair enough, they tick the wrong boxes and yer screwed. But, I believe it's better for them to have some understanding, point out wrong doings/things that could be done better, then let the farmer set about fixing it without a cloud of doom over his/her head. Catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

In fairness the 2 guys were sound, pointed out a few things to us that we should do but in a very helpful way. They were very complimentry to us about the tidyness of yard and having a nice block of land in 1 piece, so all the sweeping and tidying wednes was worth it! I think if ur ok with them and are making an effort to have things up to scratch they will be with you unless they are ignorant p*icks! still i would always be nervous of dept calling, cant afford to have any penalties on sfp!!
