cyclesuperstore are selling aksiums today for 99eur.

currently have shimano r500's that came with the bike- question is whether to go for the aksiums at this price (which is a good deal) or hold off and save for a better set of wheels further down the road?

Are the ones on sale 8 speed compatible - mentions 9 and 10 speed but not 8.

Am i right in saying the M10 hub is only 9/10 speed compatible and not 8 speed?

I'm not entirely sure, but I may be correct in assuming that 8 speed would be compatible, with the appropriate spacer, I'm running an 8 speed on a set of PX model C's with no problems, using a 1mm (I think) spacer

Just ordered a set ..... not really sure what I'm going to do with them though!

Well I have a set of Aksiums on a 2006/2007 Trek 1000 with 8 speed sora and have had no issues. Not sure whether I have a spacer in place, I'm afraid, but it would seem like they can almost certainly be used with 8 speed alright.

I bought a set of these a few months ago and they come with a spacer so can be used with an 8 speed cassette no problem..

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

As far as I know, the M10 hub will take Shimano 8/9/10 speed cassettes.

The spacer is for all Shimano cassettes. If you're using a Mavic cassette you leave the spacer off.

all you need is a chain whip, a lockring tool and adjustable wrench and the internet, i know for a fact you have one of these, and if your cycle much you really should own the tools, I'd say you cant get all of them for about 20e.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭cdaly_

are they model A or something? then, keep these on your planet x for your 1st race.
My nice wheels were destroyed on my 1st national league race... Keep the new ones new.

took the plunge (Seemed like a bargain...with out doing any research!) and bought a pair too....and was pleasantly surprised to find they arrived at work before 11 this morning!!!

Are they the same as these?

I'm not sure which bike to put them on -
my commuter, battered 3yr/old alu racer with old stock wheels which I've replaced a few spokes on a few times!
or put them on my my new bike (a BeOne Mistral...still all shiny)...which has the wheels that came with it - Alex Race 28 rims on unbranded hubs I think...
    Any thoughts?

Theyre the exact wheels, and if I were you I'd put them on the BeOne

Sounds sensible alright, thanks. Didn't realise the Askiums were as high quality until I looked them up properly this morning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭xz

All you guys n gals getting your wheels today, whilst i'm still waiting on my Fulcrum 5's that I ordered last week, although, mine are coming from Germany.
Was going to wait and see this deal for myself, but weighed up my personal pros and cons on Aksiums, and decided that I needed something with a few more spokes. It was a great deal that CSS did with these, but at least I'm happy that I saved over €50 on my wheels.:D

Definitely keeping my eye on CSS every Wednesday, because the last 4 deals since they started this have been really good

On to the BeOne and the Alex 28's on to the old bike. Two bikes that have improved with one purchase. Simples.

Oh, also, Lemag, seems like you have someone who may actually be interested in buying them off you, so of course I was taking the p1ss with my offer, and retract any offer, no matter now informally I had shoved my tongue in my cheek.

Cheers shamalan but I wouldn't sleep at night if I were to sell them to you for that. I'd be pretty sure that you'd be able to get them for cheaper than €150 elsewhere. I'll be happily keeping them for back up.

Lousy. I haven't inspected mine yet but the hub is protruding through the box so they weren't very well packed.

Just picked mine up in store, they were packed loosely in half a bike box but at that price I'd happily have them thrown across the counter at me!

I inspected mine when I got home. Didn't check for trueness nor spoke tension etc. but they seem to be in perfect nic (actually look nicer than I'd expected).
