Boardman performance team Hybrid or Giant Rapid 3

    Hi
I'm looking to buy a bike via the C2W scheme for commuting a relatively short distance to work (10km).

I already have a road bike which I use for longer cycles at the weekend. I'm looking for a bike with straight handlebars as I generally prefer to cycle upright with easy access to brakes when commuting.

I have more or less narrowed my search down to 2 bikes.

The boardman performance team hybrid 2010 at Halfords which is currently 20% off working out at €699

The Giant Rapid 3 , currently in cyclesuperstore for €825 though I did get a quote from them in January for €700.

I'm leaning towards the boardman as it has hydraulic disc brakes and from what I've read is a slightly better spec.

but I think the Giant is a far nicer looking bike so still mulling it over. I think the boardman looks a bit plain.

I've test ridden both and both seem fine although Halfords don't let you take the bike out of the store.

Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated.

Anybody have any feedback to provide or opinions as to which is the better bike. Sorry to drag this old post up but I found it in a search

The Boardbman is about 1kg heavier than the Rapid. My preference is the Rapid (coz I've got one :P)
How are disc brakes to set up/adjust etc compared to canti's on the Rapid?

Thanks for that. How comfy is the rapid. I will be only using it for weekend lengthy spins and midweek fitness spins in the evening as well as using it with my turbo during the winter. I prefer the upright positioning on these bikes as I had a road bike and due to an injured back would strain it when using the drop bars

I think it's fine but then I've not much to compare it against. The standard tyres are great but for commuting I've put on Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres which give a harsher ride.
I like the upright position as well but it's a real pain when cycling into the wind (which is nearly all the time for me) so I'm converting it to drops (or will be when I get all the bits together)
