Best looking Irish Politician

Bit of light relief perhaps during the seemingly most drawn out General Election capaign in the history of the Universe. They say politics is show business for ugly people, but who do you think debunks this piece of conventional wisdom?

My vote goes to Cllr John Lyons:

Wowser! Not a huge fan of lefties normally but I'd make an exception!

Oh yes, and he's very clever and articulate and doing us gheys very proud indeed. Labour does attract all the attractive ones. Why am I in Fine Gael again?

BTW, how does one reduce the size of the pic of John Lyons above? One can almost see the pores in his skin.

Being into older men, I have a large choice to choose from, but oh man.... Enda Kenny. Apart from my Bf he's the most beautiful thing on the planet!

Mr. Lyons is indeed very pretty, one of my own party colleagues has been named best looking by Paddy Power.

Another guy is former Limerick City Cllr Kieran Walsh.

He does keep very fit. Cycles a lot, climbs a lot. IF I'm a tenth as good looking and fit at 59, I'll be happy. But that's just under 40 years away.
    He did terribly tonight unfortunately!

The most attractive candidates I've seen are Eoghan Murphy (Lucinda Creighton's running mate ) and one who I don't think is running this time, ex-Shinner Killian Forde who's now in Labour. However the politician's looks don't factor in my vote selection.

Don't know why but Labour councillor Aodhan O'Riordain totally does it for me. Saw him interviewed on RTE news a while back dressed in trendy casual attire and thought "what a hottie!!" This still image almost doesn't do him justice as he is even better looking in film footage.

Interesting to see that both Dominic Hannigan and John Lyons have been named by The Star as Irelands first openly gay TDs.
I knew Hannigan was gay but had never heard of John Lyons.
Both are fine looking men. ;)

Now if only the other 4,5,6 ? guys and gals could come out too - but I'm sure it'd be political suicide for some of them. :( Sad

John is married! He went to college with my sister.

Pa Driscoll the FG candidate in East Cork, is also openly gay (and a kind of surprising place to be openly gay). There have been a few others in various parties, not to mention a few higher up rumour mills.

there are 2 John Lyons - - one from Labour, one from People before profit
    Maybe thats the confusion?

There one or two FG TDs not openly G.A.Y

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

There was one FG candidate elected in Dublin being interviewed after his seat was confirmed and if he's not gay, I'd be very surprised - it was shining out of him. Although again I used to think Ivana Bacik was a lesbian.

You may be thinking of Paschal Donohoue, he's got a wife and kids I believe - but being a gay man and having a wife and kids aren't necessarily mutually exclusive as we all know.

Guys, I don't think it's fair or appropriate for you to be speculating about people's sexuality and naming names on a public forum such as this particularly if there is no truth in it whatsover. Assuming you are LGBT, you of all people should know how personal and sensitive the matter of coming out is. If there are people in a public position that do not feel comfortable coming out at this time, that is their prerogative. Would you like friends openly speculating about you on Facebook walls if you hadn't yet come out?

Even if you are not LGBT and are regular readers/contributors to this forum, please also show sensitivity as you surely would have picked up from various threads how significant and daunting that being open about sexuality can be for people.

Sorry, and I agree. I never said he was gay. I was just hazarding a guess as to who the others were alluding to. Maybe you should direct your self righteousness at them also. For the record, he's not. Being in the party, I know this for a fact.

this thread is about looks not sexuality, please stay on topic and please report posts if you have a problem

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
