Sadly the Sunday Tribune has gone under. Very disappointing for the 40 staff employed.
Seems circulation and advertising were the reasons for its closure.
Just wonder what the editorial staff will do for new jobs, as there aren't too many out there.

A very sad bit of news for the staff and the industry as a whole - it was unlikely they'd find anyone to buy it but it's a shame nonetheless.

As for what the staff will do, it's hard to say. There are a few high-profile names there that will probably get picked up by another media organisation. There may not technically be jobs in the industry but jobs will always be found for those with a good enough reputation.

As for the others I can only guess it's a life of freelancing for the time being - it's increasingly becoming the way journalists have to operate and that won't change even if there's an economic turn-around.

As expected, the political editor has been moonlighting on Newstalk during the election campaign maybe he can get a berth there. Newspaper people can add something to electronic news media.

Well Newstalk don't pay great. So, occasional appearances won't cover the mortgage as they say.

It is sad to see people losing their jobs in this economic climate but the Trib had become the equivalent of a students union newspaper. Some of the talented journos will be headhunted but I wouldn't expect that many of the others will get jobs now.
