Fit for Purpose timespan on a GPS

So, the Sureshot 8800 can't find satellites anymore. The unit is exactly 2 years old and treated with care and still has the plastic screen cover etc on it. I still have the original disks/boxes/receipts etc.

I've been arguing all day with Sureshot in the UK. They didn't even offer to take the unit back but instead went trying to sell me a new one and were offering a "deal".
The deal, on their wesbite is the same as anyone can get. It's still 160 quid.

My questions is what time span is "fit for purpose" on something like a GPS? 2 golf seasons is not enough in my view.
The device is perfect but has stoped doing it's main function which is to tell me the distance to a point.
The rule is "A product that breaks down in an unreasonably short time may not be of merchantable quality."

Of course in my view 270 quid worth of GPS to break down in 2 years is too short.

    Any thoughts?

    Yours etc,
    GSH.

The minimum I woulds expect them to do is to re-flash the unit with the latest firmware or point you to their website where you can download it yourself. There's not a lot going on in these devices as regards moving parts so a reinstalation of the firmware often works.
