Way too late... about two weeks ago was the cut-off point. And seriously do your friends really think you can register for an election in the same week as it's on?

thanks and yes...yes they do sadly. You've just settled an arguement :D now I don't have to listen to them whinge on and on because the feckin bimbos wont even be voting  (I have strong suspicions that there are many like them out there)

It was the 7th of February I think. I remember as that's when I changed my registered address, on the last day :)

Well as you'll see from a number of threads in here recently bitching and moaning about our situation then not voting really pee's a lot of people off. And rightly so.

Well to be honest I dont see why the register needs to be altered unless requested by a member of the public. The removal of names from a register should only be done in the event of a death or a request by the person being removed. It seems that a lot of people are removed without any due cause.

I think it's fairly safe to say the whole system is in a mess. It badly needs to be taken away from local councils and done properly nationally.

I have received a voting card but after reading this thread called local garda station to confirm that I am on the register. I am not on their register and the local Council are not taking calls on this matter. I will present myself at the polling station on the 25th and see what happens.

I believe the local post office should have a copy of the register if you want to confirm it yourself. (at least my local PO has one).

My partner registered a few years ago at a different address.(He has voted in the past in a Co Council election) He would just call to that house to pick up his polling card. Now Ive just checked the register and hes not on it and hasnt received a card.

    He may have been removed.

Just found out myself that i had been removed and now have no vote, pretty gutted. Was registered at a previous address and didn't get to change address in time. Assumed that i could turn up at the polling station and vote like i had done previously. Had checked the register at the end of Jan and was still on it. Turns out that i was actually removed in Aug and had no idea. The online register is updated once every year on 14th Feb.

Although checkthergister is a great idea it has its limits which need to be made clearer

 Why would they just remove someone?? Is there any chance of getting it sorted out before Friday? I mean can you go to the local council in person and make a case? Thats madness!

Someone from the council may have knocked on the door and asked who lived there.

I was taken off the register here a few years ago and had to put myself back on it.

Yeah thats what i was told happened me. The problem this time is that the old register was up until early Feb and there are people who were on that who were actually removed from the Register many months before. I apparently was removed in August last even though when i checked at the end of Jan it told me i was there :(

I just received confirmation from a local councillor I was removed at the end of January 2011, he said he will check why but that its too late to do anything about it. The voting card was issued prior to removal hence I have a voting card but no vote. I asked who had the power to remove me and he said that there were far too many to mention but that any councillor could have me removed or members of the clerical staff could also remove me. Surely this is unfair that someone in an office in your Local Council can decide if you have the right to vote without prior or subsequent notification. Seems very suspicious really.

there are plenty people on these threads giving out that they have not been removed from old addresses and are getting multiple polling cards and calling that suspicious.

the Councils are being knocked when they do nothing and also when they take action...damned if they do etc

there are plenty of problems with the system at present but the bottom line is that if you move address you should register there

in all fairness you should also not leave it until a couple of days before the event to check out the position

People bitch when the register is not being updated when they change addresses.

Now people are bitching that they are being removed from the register when they change addresses.

    You just can't please anybody.

In all fairness we're not all knocking the councils. In fact i will praise the person in DLR co co who actually rang me back at 6pm yesterday after i had left a message with a query in the morning.

I'm pissed off about not having a vote. Yes its my own fault that i didn't change my address, but its a crazy system where you have to inform every government dept of a change of address. Having to get a guard to sign the form as well is a joke, especially since the last time i tried to do this i had to go to 2 different stations to get someone to sign it.

As a number of people have mentioned above the major flaw is the fact if you actually checked anytime before the beginning of February your name may have appeared on checktheregister but you could have already been removed from the register.

I know that not everyone is but there are plenty and, as mentioned, on soemtimes contradictory positions

indeed I have aimed a few knocks myself

you can thank privacy and data laws for that generally

yep I was removed before the local elections and was able to get on the supplementary register in time

there was no notification of being removed (despite it being recommended)which is also an issue

We rang one of the candidates last night (why not get some use from them) Lo and behold...got a call about an hour ago saying he can vote..it was a glitch in the system ;). So I suggest anyone else with the same problem, give one of them a call. Amazing how fast they can fix things :pac:

He was not on the online one,but was still on the paper one. The online one said he had been removed because he changed address (how they knew that is anyones guess) so its worth a phone call to check!
