weights in the morning?

    hey,

I'm a member of the carisle ben dunne gym and man can it get busy on early week evenings, it makes it as hard as hell to get a good weights program done as waiting to long to get squat or bench and as soon as your on you're been asked when you'll be done.

So i was thinking of splitting my workout up into two and do the weights in the morning and cardio in the evening.

So just wondering if any opinions on this say cold mussels, might cause injury not being warmed up enough and should i get something to eat before????

    Thanks

That would be fine. Just do a ten minute warm up on a machine before starting the weights.

I hear you about that gym. The weights are packed and its important not to have too much time between sets etc. I left it for the same reason.

It would be more important to have somthing to eat after the weights workout. I would recommend a protein shake straight after.

I'd have thought cold mussels would be better around dinner time... :pac:

Serious answer: do a warm-up and your muscles should be fine.

Personally, I'd eat breakfast about an hour before hitting the gym in the morning. I spend 20 minutes or so warming up my whole body (bike, cross-trainer, rowing machine, treadmill) and then start with lower weights and build up to heavier.

for quite a while I went in the mornings before work and it took a couple of sessions to get into it properly (Im not really a morning person) but after that it was the same as going later.
    Definitely eat something 1st though.

i've been kinda put off now about lifting in the morning after reading some of the stuff about your spine, as it says wait at least an hour after getting up. I wonder it this only to do with doing squats or all weights as you wouldn't think the bench press could hurt your spine.

Is there any heavy lifters out there who lift straight after getting up??

My stomach can't handle lifting in the mornings - I feel sick throughout the session and for about 3-4hours after

I do weights in the mornings for about half my weekly sessions although im not at the stage where im lifting massive weights yet.

As pointed out already, adequate warm up in the mornings and getting some fiel into you about an hour before your workout (Although 2 hours in advance would be even better)

its a great feeling getting to work knowing your workout is done for the day! :)
