Bought my first Iphone today and I'm in a major panic!

ok long story as short as I can.

Bought an unlocked + jailbroken 3GS 16gb today which worked perfectly and had no problems until I installed a theme app through cydia which gave me a screenlock of just an image from the theme and the clock.

I foolishly hooked up to itunes to restore (thinking that the phone was factory unlocked and should have no problem taking my sim upon restore). well these wasnt the case, turns out the phone had been unlocked 3rd party.

I figured I'd have a clean unlocked iphone without jailbreak (which I could decide to re add later when I am more familiar with it)

I'm now stuck in recovery mode with the phone only showing a usb lead and itunes symbol. Itunes does pick up the phone and restore seems to go perfect up until "error 1015"

is this fixable? any help would be HUUUGELY appreciated and rewarded :)

if ireb doeant work, don't rush into anything. use websites like modmyi.com xsellize.com sinfuliphone.com and redmondpie.com to search fo the answers. if the phone has saved ssh blobs on cydia(likely) you should be able to downgrade. but unlock depends on baseband and this cant be downgraded so don't complete the full restore.
take your time and read lots. you have a godd chance of getting out of this.

my iPhone 3gs was never jailbroken and got stuck in a recovery loop when it was 8 months old, i tried everything to get it out of it, tried every link, downloaded software 'fixes' nothing worked, in the end i contacted Apple who told me their policy was to replace it, i had a new iphone by the end of the week.

thanks for the replies. Im not very tech minded when it comes to firmwares etc so I have handed it into a repair shop today to get a verdict.

there is no need for that, its fixable yourself.just google the error code number (error 1015)
if it cant be googled,it cant be done.
but it can.ehatever you do dont pay anyone much to do it for you.

    http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=708&q=error+1015+iphone+3gs+restore&aq=f&aqi=g1g-m1&aql=f&oq=

theres even videos at the bottom of the page from youtube relating to that error code.

yeh but the problem Barry, is that I cant get into the phone and ive tried numerous things but decided id rather pay to have it done at the risk of messing it up further

also ive just discovered you can't update if the phone has already been unlocked/jailbroken. thats how clueless I am!

    Hello,

I had a similar issue just this week with a 3G.

Because its giving you that error after a legit restore leads me to believe that the phone had the 6.15.00 baseband to facilitate the unlock.

I spent four hours at this on saturday and i finally got it.

download the latest pwnage tool from the dev team and the official IPSW for ios 4.2.1 and create a custom firmware.

Put the phone into DFU mode ( which pwnage tool gives you instructions) and go back to itunes (it will have recognized the phone in "restore mode") hold shift/option and select the custom firmware you just created.

An important note, in pwnage select expert mode, and de select "activate phone" and also if pwnage tool prompts you tu update to an ipad baseband say no.

Had a similar situation to yours buddy, but a restored 3GS will have a 05.15.04 baseband and is currently unlockable. So if you update the baseband to iPad 6.15.00 you can unlock this with ultrasn0w. I did this last week and it worked a treat.

This is also worth a read for the OP, for future reference at least ;)

If its already on 6.15.00 (which i think it is, because the stock restore failed) and you try to update the baseband to 6.15.00 again the custom restore will fail.
