    Hi All :)
Just wondering do any of ye sell stuff on ebay? Have a load of stuff that I could get rid of. Not crap now, just dvds maybe, or cds etc...
Is it difficult to get set up as a seller? Any thoughts appreciated... :)

Not a discussion pertinent to the Ladies Lounge, think you'll get more suitable advice here.

Easy to be set up but watch out for fees and scammers. In short for DVDs, CDs etc. you're not allowed to charge postage (keep this in mind when pricing things), you also have to pay the Ebay and Paypal fees. On top of that if you're disputed on delivery/quality etc. chances are you'll lose with Paypal any way registered or not.

Hence what ever you sell on Ebay you should consider it a plus if you actually get any cash for it...

Eh - I've always paid and charged postage on DVDs, Books and CDs on eBay. Not a hope in hell of me shelling out the guts of €3 per DVD/Book?? What would be the point in listing stuff at all?!

To be honest, there's not really much money in small media items unless you have an awful lot to sell - some are starting off at very, very low prices so consider if it's worth it. Where I found the money building up quite quickly was with clothes - be 100% honest in your descriptions (because if you're not, you'll get negative feedback) and take lots of pictures. Kids branded clothing also sells well. I tend to let stuff build up until they have a "free listing" weekend which happens every so often.

The only major hassle I find with eBay is posting the stuff - and you're responsible for issuing a refund if a customer does not get the item. It is handy for making a few extra quid every so often and if you don't live too far away from a Post Office, then go for it.

Hi Shanna, Yeah they had a free list last weekend. I Sold my CDS in like Bulk Lots . 10 CD Set of singles of the same band.
How much do you normally charge on postage to UK or Ireland? I listed a 5 euro postal fee to ireland and 7 euro to UK ) (7 cd singles)

Made a few quid on clothes before too, Yes deffo on clothes tell them everything, A zipper on a jacket i sold was a bit stiff and the buyer went nuts over it, so , tell all!

Ronan, when I started selling I would just estimate postage and I'd end up actually losing money on stuff - I got a little booklet from the Post Office that shows all their rates worldwide according to weight, so I'm a bit pedantic about stuff now and weigh things before I list them to give a fairer estimate. I can't stand when people say things like "postage includes the stamps, packaging, my time, the petrol to the post office, the sellotape, the pen I write the address with" etc. As far as possible, I just charge what An Post charge me and add 30 or 40c on for the packaging. It actually surprised me how expensive it is to post things - I think the last thing I sold to Ireland was a couple of DVD boxsets together, and it cost 7 euro to post, so a fiver is definitely fair. Some people expect you to post for free!

A tip if you decide to sell, OP - don't buy expensive bubble wrap envelopes. You can get bubble wrap and rolls of brown paper in the euro shop, does the same job.

It can be a lot more toruble than it is worth unless you are selling things for a big enough profit. Otherwise you may think you are making money but the time you spend dealing with the things you have sold is worth more than the money you can make!

I put an item on Adverts.ie at over €200 and got some comments that just made me think it'd be hell of a lot of hassle - people offering way below price, people asking for advice with their home set-up for products I wasn't selling etc.

It was up for 17 days with no luck so I stuck it on ebay.ie concurrently.

Sold on the 2nd day it was on ebay, even accounting for fees, my profit was pretty decent.

RIGHT So i sold 10 items on Ebay. To be honest i got little or nothing for them. Enough for a night out. Gumtree and donedeal can be more of a niuisance people hagglin after you put ur price as low as you can go. Just dont expect ebay to be a big money spinner but i made a few quid, for stuff i would otherwise have stuck in the attic. quick simple
