    They're not, they are definitely making a loss at that price.

    doesn't include fri/sat.

    break it down.

    drink say €5
    breakfast €5
    washing/esb €5

    so that leaves €25 more than they would have

    Or maybe break it down more accurately like this:

    Beddeals.ie commission, minimum 15%, possibly 25% or even 50% for an offer of this type. Say 20% for arguments sake:

    Net revenue to Blooms of €32.

    VAT included in that is €4 @ 13.5%.

    €28 net of VAT

    €5 for the drinks (your figure)

    =>€23

    Linen rental for 2 double beds @ 50c per double sheet, 30c per pillow case, 50 per bath towel, 35c per hand towel, etc. Allow around €5 for this to be generous. Also a couple of quid for the complimentary toiletries, shoeshine kit, sewing kit, complimentary pens and notepad that will invariably end up in the guests bag, etc. Say €7 altogether for consumables in the bedroom.

    =>€16 left.

    Cleaning staff to service the room. Generally 1 person will take around 20-30 minutes to turn over the room and clean the room and bathroom to a satisfactory standard for the star rating. At minimum wage, we'd be looking at €5-6 for this including PAYE, PRSI, holiday entitlements, etc. Thats generously low and assuming minimum wage.

    =>€10 left.

    Breakfast time. Food costs+ service, kitchen staff, wastage, etc. Blooms is, i believe, 4 star, so there has to be a certain standard and range of stuff available. €5 a head would be low here, but would depend on volume of guests. Could be lower, could be higher.

    =>€0 left

    Water is metered and there would be an additional cost for that used by the guests. Low, but a cost none the less. This would go in the same category as the electricity used by the guests, gas costs to heat the room and water used by them.

    I'm sure there are other costs which I haven't included but we are already at a loss.

    At that price there would be next to no margin.

    However if it keeps a hotel afloat and staff in their jobs, its a worthy endevour until things pick up.

    Indeed. The hope is that these guests will stay in the bar for the night after their free drink or have dinner there or order room service. Or may stay a second night at full price. Or have a car and pay for parking, etc, etc. The owner of Blooms, Martin Keane, also owns the Oliver St John Gogarty and other businesses in Temple Bar so its a win even if they do go out to drink. It increases the footfall in the area in general.

    Was in the VAT bar recently and nearly passed out when I was charged a whopping €5.70 for a pint of Heineken.

    What would you expect to pay for a pint in town. Don't get me wrong I agree, it's a rip-off but that's why I don't go drinking in the city centre.

    I'd say if they're breaking even at that price, then at least there isn't a loss. They will probably make a little something here and there from the mini-bar, perhaps the hotel bar etc and have the opportunity to market themselves to customers.

    Not a loss at least.

    Not that much! Even in Temple Bar. Up €1.05 from my local. I would have left if I hadn't gone there specifically to see a band.

    I'd say they could well be just about breaking even or even making a small loss with the deal in isolation but are speculating that they'll claw a little back with mini bar, residents bar and repeat business.

    Yeah, I'm the receptionist in Blooms!
    (Not really)

    The problem with that is that a new low base rate has been set for room prices. Next time the people want to stay, it will be difficult to get them to fork out the €89-€109 regular price for the room with breakfast.
