    hi
i am getting blue screen on my laptop quiet often now.
i have moved all my data to the external hdd.
the blue screen errors are different.

does this mean by hard disk is gone?
or is any other problem with the laptop?

    its a 3yeard old laptop.

i dont mind replacing the hdd if i am sure the problem is due to hdd.

    any ideas?

i will try to post the error messages soon.

Without the error messages we're in the dark as much as you are.

Good bit of info there to help you diagnose.

Mine is hopefully getting fixed today. From experience the first thing I would do is the pre boot diagnostic. If you have a dell hold FN when you are turning on or else hold F12 and run the pre boot diagnostic.

my problem occurs more frequently if i move my laptop from one place to other or even shake.

i was getting intermittent blue screen
so checked BIOS hDD test - all fine
checked BIOS Memory test - all fine
so did a reset BIOS to default settings.(not sure what was before)

    restarted laptop
    bang..
it goes to booting uptions - i select any mode(safe, last good config, default), it boots for 2 seconds, shows a blue screen for a micro second and restarts.
this cycle going on now without stop since last night
cant login and also cant get the blue screen error code

bios tests are usually not thorough enough. Could be bad ram - burn mem test to a cd and boot into it http://www.memtest.org/

ran the memorty test using http://www.memtest.org/
    it passed.
but blue screen did not disappear.
    so repaired windows OS.
    reinstalled all drivers
    all back fine now.
    installed ubuntu on windows.
