SAAB 93, no brakes...at times..heeeelp

I've had two close encounters recently where the brakes on my 2008 SAAB 93 "failed" briefly. When applying the brakes the pedal was rock hard in two seperate occasions, once on the M1 and once arriving at traffic lights, not good!! With some hard "pumping" the pedal would come back to life but they were scary moments I tell you.

It also looks as if the ABS is looking to kick in way to quick and without reason.

Any ideas anybody? Servo, vacuum pump?

That doesnt sound good, I am assuming it is out or warranty...

but I would be more inclined in your position to get it to a mechanic ASAP....

Hi I'm a Saab technician yeah as he says that's not a common fault you have to get this checked as soon as possible

The vehicle is with somebody at the moment who is trying to determine what's causing this intermittent fault. Just putting it out here just incase another fellow SAAB driver has had the same experience. We hace excluded leaky hoses at this stage and have it boiled down (I hope) to either servo or vacuum...

Sorry, yes, car is just out of warrantee...

A Padraic.M, any idea why the abs would activate very early on the front especially?

Bad tyres is a common cause.

Btw, you could always try Saab for a Goodwill warranty gesture if it turns out to be something that, inside the official period, would have been done automatically. No harm in asking.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I understand but tyres are not causing the issue at the moment. I'm running Hankook winter tyres at the moment which by the way are performing great so far. There seems to be quite a bit of rust build up around the vacuum pump so I think they are replacing that to see if that makes any difference. It's going to be an "elimination" game I think.
