Headphones not working with ipod touch

Having had bad luck with headphones before, I decided to splash out yesterday and got some skull candy headphones, absolutely beautiful. Worked with all my musical possessions til last night when I went for a walk and plugged them into my ipod touch. For some reason, only the right ear works with it. A problem I've had…

Having had bad luck with headphones before, I decided to splash out yesterday and got some skull candy headphones, absolutely beautiful.
Worked with all my musical possessions til last night when I went for a walk and plugged them into my ipod touch.
For some reason, only the right ear works with it. A problem I've had with all my previous headphones for quite some time.

So is my ipod the source of all my headphone related problems? Any suggestions anyone?
