Ryanair Chase

With so many people unsure of which horses are going to turn up for this race, there's obvious value in picking out one ante post for it.
Anyone else think Punchestowns has a chance of being supplemented for it?
Won't figure in the Gold Cup and with a horse who seemingly could take on the world, surely a grade 1 at Cheltenham will have to be attempted, even if it is the Ryanair.110 on Betdaq looks tempting. Also think The Nightingale could be a good each way shout at 25/1

Punchestowns won't run, Henderson already confirmed it.

The Nightinggale is out aswell, heart problem similar to Denmans

    Haha,thanks Richie.
Good job I didn't back them this morning. Is Punchestowns being sent to Cheltenham do you know? Sending him to the GC would be pointless in my eyes.

NJH said he might be kept for the 3m race at the Grand National meeting

I said on another thread if he were to skip Cheltenham I'd like to see him go there. Wouldn't be as stiff as Cheltenham, might jump better there.
If he weren't to win that I could see him going for the World Hurdle next year.

Kalhari King at 10's would be the one to stand out to me at this stage

Support for Albertas Run today. Or at least hes been cut by some firms. 11s best price now. Stand out bet but value is vanishing - especially with stable form so bad. Wouldn't want to be taking less than 8s with Jonjo struggling

Could the quality of the Ryanair start to suffer as Denman and Kauto come to the end of their careers?

Will more trainers start to take a shot at the Gold Cup like the old days before the Ryanair? I'm thinking the likes of Our Vic, Racing Demon, Imperial Commander (the year he swerved the GC) and this year Riverside Theatre.

I know there are specialist 2 1/2 mile horses but a few have tried to avoid Denman and Kauto in the last couple of year.

Riverside Theatre out of the Ryanair. Hairline fracture to pelvis

If ever there was a race to sit back and watch with your money firmly in your own pocket (apart from the Bumber), this is it.

    Late decision on Albertas assault

    (UKPA) – 3 days ago

A decision on whether Albertas Run defends his Ryanair Chase title will not be made until as late as possible.
Jonjo O'Neill's 10-year-old has had a disappointing season so far, having finished fourth behind Monet's Garden in the Old Roan Chase and suffering a terrible fall at Ascot. On his only other start he was pulled up in the King George but Mick Meagher, Trevor Hemmings' racing manager, is hoping a change in the weather will spark improvement.

"I'm not sure if he was over the fall really (when he ran in the King George). We haven't made a decision about Cheltenham yet, we'll just wait and see what the ground will be like," said Meagher.

"He's always done well in the spring. He won the EBF Final at this time of year and obviously the Ryanair and at Liverpool, all his best form always seems to be in the spring.

"It was a great performance at Aintree last year, coming so close after he'd won at Cheltenham. He loves it there, good ground and the sun on his back, everything is right for him there."

If it came up soft Albertas wouldn't really be competitive in any race but Pandorama - another big winner for me would be favoured by it. It looks like its going to be good to soft at worst and now my good ground horse is going to defect to another race....Ante post betting, who'd be stupid enough to try it?

    :P

Did anyone have Tranquil Sea? This is starting to look ultra weak even though the first three from last year are still in it.

I did but NRNB thanfully, Alberta's is hugely appealing at those prices.

VPU at 16/1 is whispering seductively at me,kind of like an Aislinge.

    Ah, gotta love the Voy.

He has obviously shown quality after his pelvis injury for Nicky to enter him, but realistically I'm not sure how he will do. I hope he runs a good race and does himself justice.

Bringing back memories of Exotic Dancer now :(

I doubt they'd run him so quick if he wasn't fighting fit.
Would love to see him run a big race, the field gets weaker and weaker by the day.

Even in this race he will struggle to get into the money, his foor has been dire recently to say the least and his best days look to be behind him in my opinion. He is 14lbs lower than when at the peak of his powers.

'"Subsequently, following several tests including a bone scan, it was found Voy Por Ustedes had sustained a fracture to his ilium wing and was also suffering from significant pain in his lumbar region and left hind stifle.

"It was thought the fracture occurred early on in training during 2009 and possibly during his race at Ascot, where he jumped so badly when finishing third toAlbertas Run in the Amlin Chase. It should be stressed the normal symptoms shown for this type of injury were not apparent at that time.'

If that'ts true as to how long he had that injury and when unnoticed,it's no wonder he dropped his form so much.

The article also said that he had no Cheltenham entries but if he went well he'd go to Aintree and Punchestown. He'd have to be going well for him to be supplemented for this so soon after returning to Henderson's.

I did not hear this, do you have a link to it? He might be worth a few bob each way

The more I look at it the more i'm thinking Poquelin is an absolutely cracking bet at 11/4.

It's more on the process of elimination than anything else, but also the view that Poquelin has improved considerably.

Albertas Run - Beat Poquelin by 4l last year. If running to that form again i'd be disappointed if Poquelin didn't improve past him. But either way. there is no reason to think he'll run to that form. Terrible season and looks on a downward curve.

Kalahari King - Talking horse but rarely delivers. May improve for the step up to 2m 5 but I still can't see him being good enough. The main danger though i'll concede.

J'y vole - Third last year beaten a neck by Poquelin. I like her, but while Poquelin looks to have improved, she looks on about the same form and ran a poor race at Thurles last time. A decent place chance.

Vor Por Ustedes - People are putting this as a selection simply because they cant think of anything else. Has no chance on anything it's shown since the Ryanair 2 years ago.

Tartak needs it soft and I don't think anything else has anywhere near the class required.

Poquelin has the best form this season, likes the course, loves the ground, and of course the trainer/jockey combo can only be a plus. Should be a 6/4 shot in my book

Voy Por Ustedes ran with an injury,as outlined above, since he won that race. He wouldn't have been supplemented it for it so quick if he wasn't flying at home Hulk.

Yeah fair enough, I didn't read through the thread before posting that so didn't see it. Still wont be backing it, but on past form there's worse 14/1 shots I suppose

Roberto Goldback is overpriced discounting race stats like course form etc. Has very little to find with J'y Vole
