    Hello,

I was hoping to get some advice on buying a used car.

I want to spend about 8-9k and the key things I'm looking for are:

    1. Safety
    2. Low Mileage and reliability
    3. Nice interior

A 1.4 engine will do me fine, I think. I'll be using it mainly for long journeys and a bit of city driving

I've been looking mainly at 06/07:

    VW Golf
    Opel Astra
    Volvo S40
    Ford Focus

Can anyone recommend what is the best of these cars, or if there is any other car I should be looking at?

    Thanks!

The MK5 Golfs are nice and reliable and would be my pick but all in all thats a good bunch of cars to look at at.

    Best of luck!

Did you read the original post at all?!

2006/2007 1.4 car and you recommend a 2002 2 litre performance saloon with 130k miles that isn't cheap to insure!!!

Now I love Euro R's a lot, but the OP is not looking for one!

OP, out of the 4 cars you have listed, I would pick either the golf or focus. I drive a 2006 1.4 golf a good bit, and it's nice, but I like the look of the focus so I would get a spin in one of them before making any decisions!

A 1.4 golf isn't great for long journeys, they lack power for overtaking on N roads when you're stuc behind a slow moving car, and they're not very fuel efficient at motorway speeds.

They're the cars the OP said they looked at...they specified only safety, reliabilty, low mileage and comfort!
