X-mini speakers - interference

I bought a set of X-mini speakers a week ago. I saw them demonstrated in a department store and I was blown away by their small size and huge power. They come with a special cable which combines a USB plug for charging and a normal 3.5mm jack to plug into your audio device.

If I plug them into any of the desktop machines I have at home and switch them on, I hear interference through them from what I suspect is the hard disk as it increases whenever the disk is being read. Each of my desktop machines are a few years old now and they have both IDE and SATA controllers and each has at least one IDE disk. The interference is only there when the USB charging cable is plugged in, and I get perfect audio when only the sound jack is plugged in. I also get interference through the speakers if only the charging cable is plugged in.

I brought them back to the shop yesterday and they were tested on four different machines and worked perfectly each time. So I brought them home again and I connected them to my laptop with its SATA disk and they worked perfectly.

It's only now that I think about it that I wonder if it is something to do with the IDE disk, or am I clutching at straws?

Has anyone else used these and was there any problems with them?
