18 acres of good land. Would you sow it for hay or put cattle on it? It has to be ploughed and sown for either. Im not looking to make a profit (would be nice though), but to keep me busy and enjoy it. I reckon from a bit of experience hay would make more for the amount of land but if the margins are slim id nearly go cattle. Which would i break even in??

A lot less work for hay but you're depending very much on the weather coming right when you want it to. I'd be inclined to go the hay route this year, and if the weather is against you maybe go for silage and see how you get on

any reason gettin bullocks etc are out? Would it end up costing me a lot in the long run regarding vet costs etc for such a small number on 18acres. I reckon wit 18 acres you really couldn get more than 5 or 6 for rearing
