Spoke Tightening on Mavic Aksiums

When tightening or loosening spokes should the whole spoke be turning with the nipple? Even with a bit of oil on the nipples the whole thing is twisting. Will this cause the spoke to snap?

    Cheers

In short Diarmuid , no the spoke should NOT be turning with the nipple . I've had fierce problems with my Aksium wheels over the years so I'm now a dab hand at "truing" them . There may be a bit of threadlock compound on the spoke thread , try a bit of WD40 and leave overnight . Best of luck

You need to be using on of these to prvent the spoke from turning with the nipple:

Should be cheap enough in the local bike shop although an adjustable wrench, amongst other things, would also do a trick.

You need a bladed spoke holder, or if you dont have one a small adjustable spanner works a treat, plus dont forget when you tighten the spoke always go a 1/4 turn back to releave the torsion on the spoke

    Jeez, that's a bit pricy!

I use a pair of allen keys on my multitool and squeeze the spoke between them.
