not hugely guilty about this one, what a cracker of a bird she was and it's a cracking little tune, the dichotomy of a pretty lady with an angry rasp in her voice is a joy to behold

I always fancied the two sisters in this band. The brother has all the moves of a hippopotamus

There's nothing to feel guilty about, it's a crackin tune.

I remember getting slagged years ago for liking this song but I think it's pure quality.

 I love that song! I'd never feel guilty about liking it.
That German lass that won the Eurovision last year - there's something hypnotic about they way she mangles her vowels.
She's representing Germany again this year; her song this time around is really good too. Probably too weird/not catchy enough to win Eurovision but I like it!

 Ah now, in what universe is Bjork a guilty pleasure? She's an incredible singer/artist. And while the Sugarcubes were very hit and miss, Life's Too Good is a brilliant album, an indie classic imo.

    No guilt there, just pleasure.

Alt/Indie is quite a selective, acquired taste, in my opinion. While an extensive genre in itself whose borders are almost impossible to define, I find that many alt/indie-ites (?!) tend to be quite - I wouldn't go as far as snobbish, prudent maybe? - in their musical leanings, so I'd just like to dig a little deeper!

An old topic no doubt but I believe the concept of a 'guilty pleasure' is debatable in itself. It's extremely easy to attach throwaway labels on a lot of music nowadays and I think that discourages a thorough exploration of different genres and styles, and methinks this is especially pertinent to pop music. Now, I LOVE pop music, I really do, I think pop songsmithery is an art and that oftentimes, my favourite songs (never usually albums though) of the year feature tunes by artists that don't necessarily conform to my typical listening patterns. Alt/Indie is the genre I feel most comfortable with and it's the sound I find myself returning to time after time, but every now and again, my ears catch the melody of a Top 40 hit whos' catchiness and appeal I simply can't deny, songs that get me to lash on repeat but never compel me to source anymore of the artist's catalogue (probably a snobbiness in itself, but sometimes you just know that the one tune is probably enough). I dunno if it's pride or image or whatever, but a lot of people into 'serious' music would be hard pressed to admit to liking these sorta tunes.

Now, there's also the possibility that I am indeed talking a load of ****e and the following tunes are indicative of that but I'd like to see if I'm not alone. :o

Well, enough yappin', I'll try illustrate my point.

    Len - Steal My Sunshine

Absolutely nails that Summer feeling better than any tune I've heard. The clonking cowbell, the bouncing piano roll, just drip with tropical vibes.

Justin Timberlake ft. Timbaland - Cry Me A River

I genuinely believe that JT and Timbaland are responsible for producing some of the most innovative yet popular music of the Naughties. A tune absolutely brimming with hooks and ideas that all seamlessly coalesce to produce a jaw-dropping chorus. Immaculate production too.

    Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up

Relatively recent inclusion, but just goes to show that pop music has the best choruses.

    *Awaits excommunication from Alt/Indie*
