Micheal Martin, Leader of Opposition

All the latest opinion polls pint to either a probable full Fine Gael government, or maybe a FG/Lab coalition? and with the deminished Fianna Fail battling Labour & Sinn Fein in pooer areas (Labour/Sinn Fein heartland), surely this means that FF will have a big fight on their hands to become the main opposition party, presumably in which case, Micheal Martin will be leader of the opposition - that'll be interesting with Gilmore in Government, and Adams sitting in the wings :)

    Any Thoughts??

I think it would be more interesting if (as much as I hate the idea) FG mange to form a government without Labour. Then you'd have Labour, SF and the other lefties on one side of the house, and FG and their right-wing independents on the other side. Since FF don't really stand for anything other than populism, they could easily swing to the left as well. It could be the end of civil war politics and the beginning of a traditional left-right divide in Irish politics.

At this stage, I think Fine Gael will do it alone, I also think that Micheal Martin has injected just enough life into Fianna Fail to make them the main Oppostion (along with Labour)

When was the last time that both Fianna Fáil and Labour were both in opposition together?

Did a bit of research and it was 1927-1932 the 6th Dáil if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, it has always been FG/Labour coalitions after that.
