i have a back to back chimney in the house measuring 6 foot square
the house is 6 years old
one fireplace is in the sitting room, one in the kitchen

they both have precast fireplace "heads" in them
the sitting room one has an open fireplace in it,the kitchen has just the opening with a fake fire in front of it

what i want to do is stick in a head in the kitchen and make the opening big enough to incorporate a stove/range in the opening
if i take out the precast jobby will all the sand/lime mix chimney lining behind the clay pots come flying out,or will it have hardened over the years?

also how much blockwork would have to be left one either side to support the head/chimney?it is a dormer bungalow.
what type of head should be used steel or concrete?

    Impossible to say from here....
You really need to get an engineer on site to advise.
