I've decided to venture into the world of carbon bikes...this one from planet x has caught my eye. Looks like good value. Can anyone recommend any alternatives or is this a pretty good option.

I can't comment much on the bike, but the deal in general looks excellent. The Red series set would cost as much and you get it with wheels and a HM CF frame. That is a sweet deal.

A lot of people on here have Planet X (I have a road and track PX myself) and are very happy with them. They are great bikes IMO and would still be good value at even a significantly higher price; I would go PX over the entry level from many major brand names.

I'm thinking of getting a canyon. For 2k you would be doing well to beat this.

Much better frame and wheels than the Planet X.

The Canyon is a lovely looking bike alright. I have to admit I don't know a whole lot about wheels so i'll take your word for it. Nice that it comes with full ultegra. I'm certainly torn between a couple of options now.

There's also the Boardman Pro http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_502093_langId_-1_categoryId_212536
I don't like dealing with halfords but at the end of the day if the bike is good, then it's good.

The Canyon is worth considering; they are nice bikes. Red is certainly a more expensive group than Ultegra but note with the PX you are just getting Red shifters and mechs, the rest of it is cheaper stuff. The new Ultegra on the Canyon is also a very nice group.

Yes the Canyon is nice and it's a similar price. I've narrowed my choice down to either the Canyon or the PX...swaying a small bit towards Canyon because of the complete Ultegra groupset.

i think i saw somewhere that px are offering an improved spec SL pro carbon, with more sram force components than you get with the red i think.

    how do those ones compare?

I'm not sure to be honest....but there is an sl pro carbon with Campagnolo groupset http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBPXSLPCAAT/sl-pro-carbon-with-campag-athena

    Planet X, do it.
Having had and ridden more expensive bikes they're hard to fault. This is my third season training on the SL pro C.
....and I'm going to buy their TT rig as soon as finances allow!:D

The general sense i'm getting is that i couldn't go too far wrong with a Planet x

I've a PX SL pro with Sram Red, very happy with it so far, particularly considering the price. Picked it up from Planet X Ireland in Athlone. They had a few nanolights built up there too. Could be worth a look as it takes some of the guesswork out of buying online.

I don't think you would go wrong with either of them (or the Boardman for that matter.) They are all good value for the money.

You're spot on....I don't think i'd regret buying any of the bikes mentioned.
