Is there anyway of obtaining a grant for an online business similar to the dailydeal sites at the moment?

I have contacted enterprise boards but they only offer grants to manufacturing or internationally traded services businesses.

I find it ridiculous that they don't even consider other types of businesses.

there are packages available for business expansion/start-up - sounds like you were fobbed off to be honest.

    where have you tried?

I was in contact with Meath enterprise board a while back regarding an online business idea, they wanted to set up a meeting after I sent my application but also asked if I could send a business plan, so they could fully understand what I wanted to do.

I never got around to sending a business plan as I decided not to continue with the idea, now however I have found a new market for the idea but with a more solid outlook. I contacted them recently to see if they still had funding available but replied saying they cannot assist unless I qualify for manufacturing or internationally traded business. Which for a citydeal modeled site does not match up. So now I am searching for other avenues.

so you effectively showed them you want to do business and then were not prepared/didn't turn up to a meeting/decided not to go ahead with the project....... that's effectively like sticking two fingers up to them

no offence to you - but business etiquette is extremely important especially if you want something from someone else.

business plans with projected income, staff turnover, investment plans, projected realistic profits, research. these are extremely important for a potential investor (enterprise boards etc.) ..... they want to know the business model will work before they invest....and will more than likely look for substantial return on their investment.

Well there where difficult circumstances at the time that led to a delay in contacting them. I contacted them to inform them on this and said I would get back to them as soon as possible. However over the course of this time, I realised the business wasn't right it needed something more.

After my idea changed I contacted them again and they where very helpful saying they'd love to help but again stated that I must be eligible. This is where I hit a wall.
