    Hello lads
I was having a look at my uncle's old side by side this evening. He bought
it in new york in the late 60s second hand, so its a pretty old gun. He has
not fired it in years. Did any of you ever hear of them?
Thanks in advance, the knowledge on here never fails to amaze me

Ithacagun shotguns made in Ithaca New York, generally made pump action shotguns. And they are/were VERY good! Generally known as "dirt eaters" They will load, chamber and fire the rattiest 12 Ga shotgun shell, and especially nice for left hookers. They eject downwards!:D
Hmm as for the doubles.Hammerless double grade They came in grades from field grade up to $2000 dollar grade.Numbers grade 2to 7.Field was the basic,2000 dollar the highest grade. So find out which grade it is and you might be into a very nice priced gun.:D:D
Going by the way the value of them has risen since the book I am looking at is 20plus years old.In 1980 the 2000 dollar grade was fetching over 5000 dollars.

Then there is the Ithaca SKB models. They were made in Japan and were more cheaper, not as valueable as the US made Grade seris.

Well, going by me book you have either a field or no1 grade Ithaca.Could be made anywhere between 1926 and 1948.There were various add ons that could have influenced the price further, chokes etc .The engraving started on the number 2 grade, but the wood was American black walnut.[Dont have any pics of the engraving sorry.]Value around 1981 was in the region of$360 to $384 with auto ejectors, add another$120 for a vent rib.
So in modern day prices,I'd say about ballpark 400euros value.

All in all,you have a good solid bit of gun that was made in America,[when that meant somthing!] And should be still shooting well when your great grankids get to use it.It's unique that you dont see many of the dbbls or pumps this side of the pond.[Just saw an Ithaca pump for the 1st time last weekend in a dealer here.]But sorry, it isnt a huge value gun.
    hope this helps.

    Remmie

Remove the barrels from the receiver and there will be stamps and a serial number, if we have the No. it will correspond to a date and model. Ithaca Serial No. http://diamondgunsmithing.com/IGSN/IGSN.html

A few clear closeup photos of the stamps and # would be helpful.

W.L. Baker and Leroy Smith both gunmakers and owners of gun making companies (Baker Gun Co. & L.C. Smith), went to Ithaca, N.Y. and established the Ithaca Gun Company in 1883 and as they say, the rest is history.

    Remmie,
I was working at a remote location (no photos) no notes. Not an undisclosed location BTW. :D:D
Going by my notes, you'r uncles gun is a Star Field Grade NID (New Ithaca Doubles), it dates from somewhere between 1927-29 to 1934, during that time period the Field Grades had the stars engraved on the sides, hingepin ends, bottoms, trigger guard etc. and it has cocking indicators.
There were at least four different versions of the NID Field Grade over the years of production. The early Field Grades just had the dog and the address roll stamped on the sides of the frame.

The price: 1926 to the 1931-32 catalogue the list price of the Field Grade was $37.50.
1932 and 33 the list price was $40.55.
1934 the list price for the Field Grade was dropped to $39.75.

Did a quick search and found some good info : http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=209336&start=0
