hi hope im posting in the right place but looking for a bit of advice.

When the greens called for an election last november i checked the register of electors to see if i was still registered as i have fallen off every election anyway i wasnt sure what address i had last registered under as im renting and moved around a lot anyway checked all my adresses with a number of spellings of my name anyway couldnt find it although i found my parents and sister under the correct spelling at their address so i assumed i had fallen off. I contacted my college as they were doing a voting drive and registered with them at my current address.

Fast forward to this week and i received my voting card at my current address as i expected however i was visiting my parents last night and my dad told me that a voting card came for me with the surname spelt completly wrong (but not so wrong that id have an trouble cashing a cheque in that name) so my issue is now what do i do with the voting card that was sent to my parents address who do i inform and how i be sure that the person i inform doesnt use my second vote? Also yesterday i heard on the radio that the presenter was also sent two cards. So im not the only person with this issue

This happens a lot. I've been getting two for years, despite repeated requests to be removed from one list.

You don't really need to do anything. Tear one up and put it in the bin, use the other one. Your pick on which is which really, though logically the one where you actually live would be the 'right' one.

Of course if you were of a certain political persuasion eg SF you'd just go along and vote twice :D

vote FF twice they need them, SF would report it to the authorities.

Was not and is not only SF. I lived once in rented accommoation where loads of cards arrived for ex-residents. I don't think there was a party who showed no interest in the unclaimed cards piled up on the hall shelf. Though only one explicitly offered to 'take them away and deal with them' - it was not SF.

Anyone old enough to remember Haughey's election agent, Pat Pat O'Connor O'Conner as he became known?

Wtf is it with this country?

We have these "unique" identifiers called PPS numbers. For some reason this "electoral" register doesnt use these unique identifiers at all or if it does, the system being used must be a non IT one.

The amount of duplication of information across the public service is a joke - why cant the electoral register be integrated into a (at the moment) non existent massive database on the countries citizens, parts of which can be access by government departments as needs be. HSE, DSFW, ELECTORAL REGISTER, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, THE GARDAI etc etc......

I suppose that would be too much forward thinking for some party to champion a centrally stored and developed system such as this. Think of all the jobs it would cut back on in the public service and the amount of duplication it would cut for the man on the street.

Anyway, back on point - OP - this happened me once, I tore up the one for where I wasnt living.

No excuses in this day and age that this is still happening though.

Use both ballots to vote for either Dustin The Turkey... or a Military Coup!!!!

why should we give some speil-spinner a 100K+ job when 440(odd) thousand are on the scratcher.

my vote will be keeping my family warm when i use it for kindling!!!!!!
