we had a cow who had twines just under two weeks ago, had to pull the first calf broke one of his legs with the pull, the cow wasn't able to get up for a few days so we had to milk her and bottle feed the calves, when she did get up she was stiff for a few day and when we got the calf with the broken leg up to suck it looked like she didn't mind, but for the last few days she kicks at the calf so we had to tie her up. she taken to the other twine alright , we've decided to take the cow away and let her into them twice a day. has any one any better ideas Thanks...

Just try letting the cow in and out to them for a few days, she might take to them after a while.

I am curious what you did with calf with broken leg and how he is managing sucking cow and if he is the one she is not taking to.

I broke a calfs leg years ago. He was a huge calf and broke his leg with the pull. Got the vet to set the leg, but it was never right.

Why did the leg break. Twins would normally be smaller calves.

If you can put her away from all other cattle and keep the calves so she can see them at all times... also try letting a dog in near you/her when the calves are let into her and she should become very protective over both.

we got vet out as he put a cast on it, it wasn't a plaster cast u wet the bandage with hot water and it sets after a while ,only thing it kept coming off so i made my own splint, vet came back yesterday the bone wasn't set, he said she was putting too much pressure on it, so he made a kind of a sling to tie the leg to the body of the calf

the bone was broke near the ankle, vet said it will never be fully right, maybe thats what happened your calf.
as you can see the calf not that big but the father thought the cow needed help so we used the jack, I would of left her for a other while myself but he's the boss

Had similar situation a few weeks ago, vet assisted delivery with twins, one weak calf and one strong. Cow rejected weak calf. Seperated cow from calves, she could see them through a barrier but could not touch them, let them out 3 times a day to suck, after about a week she accepted both.
Not the better idea you were looking for - but it works.
