    Hi,
I am thinking of doing a nursing studies PLC course as I am doing the leaving cert this year but don't have the entry requirements for general nursing. I was wondering if it's possible to move on to general nursing after completing this course. Thanks!

Yeah there are pre nursing courses with links to nursing degree courses. Colander Dhulaigh have a pre nursing course with links to places in DCU.

Yeah its FETAC level 5. Its a one year course. The way they usually work is there is about 30 people in the course competing for 10 reserved places in DCU. The places go to the 10 best students. There's no guaranteed places in any college, each Further Education college that run pre nursing course have agreed links with the third level college providing the nursing degree,

 I went to look up NUIGalway's nursing and found out that there is only 2 Places reserved for FETAC applicants... and those places are spread across 3 nursing courses... Oh my life... Looks like i'll be repeating my LC to try to get a science subject and go a traditional route.

The places in all the Nursing Courses in IoTs and Universities are open to all FETAC Nursing graduates as long as they meet the entry requirements but there are very few available and students need to get 8 distinctions. However the UK is an option used by many FETAC students. By doing the FETAC course you establish whether Nursing is the right choice or not.

As I understand it, the UK colleges like Fetac students as they have done some practical nursing work and know whether nursing is for them. Waterford CFE have a recruiting team from a UK college over each year looking for students. (Confirm that, it was the case and I think still is.)
