Interesting idea on BFF. They were talking of using rolls of hessian as a light weight barrier to herd animals into pens. May be a useful idea for some on here who hadn't heard of it before (like me).

i could be wrong but i think its that galvanised site fencing that builders use... big mesh rectangular panels stuck down into small movable concrete slabs to keep it upright:confused:

    You're right, you're wrong ;):D

Hessian is a material. There are rolls of it on Ebay, 25, 50 metre lenghts. 72 and 40 inches wide respectively.

The use I'd have for it would be to attach to light weight 'leccy fence posts. That way I'd have a lightweight movable "fence" for guiding sheep into awkward/remote pens. It's more of a temporary psychological fence than a stock proof one.

Other people had the idea of laying it down on the ground at the entrance to a pen where animals may become skittish. When the animals are at the pen. Grab the hessian and pull it tight, so it looks like a barrier behind the animal.

My apologies John, it was "Herras Fencing" i was thinking of:

The girlfriends father uses a panel of it for loading big halfbred foals that are inclined to jump... height is the deterent in that case rather than strength.

It'd be grand for the sheep job too but i wouldnt chance it with cattle need something more robust,,, a spare gate or a few big pallets:)
