I am thinking of buying a Navman Mio Sat Nav either a V505 or V575 with digital tuner. Has anyone tried one in Dublin or the whole country for reception . It has freeview but I also read it works all over Europe on FTV.On another site. It says it has a EPG and I wonder if its possible to have all these tuner features in such a small product

It won't work here and many other places with recent Digital TV.

Only DVB-t + MPEG2. Also terrible resolution for TV OR Sat nav at only 480 x 272 lines. Decent Satnav are now 800 x 480 lines at least. (SD TV is 576 lines)

Lots of European Countries now doing MPEG4 for SD as well as HD. We are MPEG4 only and some channels will be HD only.

Also in many countries such a Sat nav is illegal to mount where the Driver can see it.

Watching TV while Driving = "Dangerous Driving" conviction.

    Thanks Watty.
Very helpful as usual. I only considered it because it was on Pixmania with full Europe map for 156 Euro and I need to update my old Route 66 sat nav for which there are no new maps available. Having the TV for lunch breaks was a bonus and good for holidays as well.
I know you are always up on all digital tech info maybe you could help me on this. I have a Humax Foxsat HD sat DVR which has two sat tuner inputs at the rear . I was wondering if after May when Saorsat is due start I could put a feed from one of the new Ka band square dishes would allow me to receive and record Irish TV stations as well as the freeview I have from the Astra 28o dish feed. With its 2 HD tuners I Thought it might work. Also have a Forte Star HD STB with a single tuner and it might work as well

You need 2 x Diseqc switches or a single multiswitch to combine the two dishes. The Humax box should work via "other channels".

I don't know if the Fortec Star has Diseqc to work with a switch. Probably has. It has no MHEG5.

If you put a 8 or 16 way multiswitch with at least two satellite inputs (8+1 inputs) then you can drive both boxes from both dishes and have 5 or 13 feeds free.

The Humax has MHEG5, but we don't know if that is enabled on the "other channels" setting needed for Diseqc.

Thats good info. I may start with a dish when they become availible and try it as a single feed with the Astra disconneted to see if it works ok before buying a multiswitch 60-70 euro I expect. I would also see if anything in a DTT DVR becomes availible at a good price.
