I want to surprise my son withy a set of skis for his 12th birthday ( I think he fancies himself as Irelands answer to Cuche! ) not too expensive pricewise I've narrowed it down to the following

Fischer RC4 Competition Jr + FJ RF 10/11 Bindings

Fischer RC4 Race Jr. + FJ RF 10/11 Bindings

Rossignal Radical Jr. + Axium Jr. 09/10 Bindings

    Salomon 24 Junior + NT7 10/11 Bindings

Rossignol Radical RX Jr. + Axium 2 Race 08/09 Bindings

    Anyone any ideas, thoughts suggestions?

If he wants to match up to Cuche (Downhill specialist) you are looking at the wrong skis :D

How Tall / Heavy is he and what is his technique like. Salomon skis are quite volatile and if you get it wrong you will get ejected backwards off the tails. Thats why I love them!

Your first choice there is a ski designed for full on junior racers, Unless your son is in a regular race program he will struggle to use them as his technique will not be good enough to Bend and turn them

The RC4 race Junior or the 24 hour would be a much better choice. Both great skis designed for high end Recreational skiers.

    Another really decent option below.

To be honest, unless you live in the Alps, I wouldn't bother buying a 12 year old skis. He's not going to the get value out of them. If you want him to have a great skiing experience, make a point of hiring top of the range skis for him instead.

EileenG; Kids top of the range rental skis are shocking! If the kid is of a high standard most rental kit will be below them if their technique is good and it will help their skiing no end.

Also there is a huge market for 2nd hand kids skis with plenty of customers and Kids tend not to be to hard on wear and tear on their kit.
