    Hi All

A girl at work is thinking about getting a 06/07/08 model of the above.

Shes looking at it with the 2.0 Diesel Engine with a automatic gearbox.

Anyone advise if they are any good ?

    Thanks

Only drove one once, remember it being surprisingly quick. Think It's 4 speed though.

    Go for deluxe model.

Do they come with 4wd as standard ?

True, I can't work out how there's so many of them on the road. 4 speed box from the 70's :D

I don't think they are bad looking car myself - the trouble is shes looking for less than 2 litres (diesel) with an auto and the choice is limited to say the least.

I read somewhere the diesel version has poor fuel economy.

    Tucson crdi auto 2wd

    Fuel consumption (urban): 27.4 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban): 42.8 mpg
    Fuel consumption (combined): 35.3 mpg

Sounds good to me, show me something better. Figures for the KIA sportage qashqai diesel auto are identical.

You could knock a few mpg off those figures for real world driving. At least the Qashqai is nice to look at, even the Sportage isn't bad compared to the Tucson

The 4WD is a option from new. The 2.0 TDI is a 6 speed box in the manual but they are very very thirsty.. Also poorly put together and not a nice drive.

The poor fuel economy even got its own sticky on the Hyundai Forum :D. I don’t think those above figures are achievable tbh.

Torque converter gearboxes are bad news tbh.

As said I've only driven one once, and the diesel was free.
I sold a few new Tucsons and one or two used ones, the used ones didn't need much prep work and I'm not aware of any problems on any of them.
I have personal experience of an 07 up to 120k and has been without issue apart from the speedo display flickering (replaced on warranty) that's a 6 speed 130.
Nothings fallen off, the seats are still perfect, no rattles etc.
I think they're built very well, some materials may not be as tactile as vw, but that doesn't make it badly built. Japanese style interior tbh

By torque converters being bad news is it specifically that model or all of them?
Torque converter is a lot safer than the likes of dsg or multimode from a longevity point of view. Downside is higher consumption and blunted performance, although as I previously said it didn't seem wanting in the power department.
