Just posting this in anticipation of having to replace my sky+ HD box.

Long story short the playback of recorded programmes kept freezing last night and the same this morning. Rang Sky and tried something or other but didnt work so I eventually had to wipe the hard drive. I now have 2 programmes reording to check if the problem is fixed.

During the conversation with the sky rep I asked about the cost of a new HD box in the event of the problem not being fixed and she said it was €229 and proceeded to mumble something about an engineer charge of €200.

If I do indeed need a new box would I be better off buying it privately or stick with sky?

could be just a power supply problem, http://www.techtir.ie/node/1002114

if you threaten to cancel because of the bad box they may do a swap out.

Just a wee update on this. The recorded programmes are all working fine again or at least for the moment anyhow.

2 little problems I have noticed. When selecting a recording to view it can take about 6 or 7 seconds for it to respond. Its not the remote as its working fine with everything else.

The other thing is that there are only 2 programmes listed in Anytime. This wouldnt be normal would it?

Is the box Thomson branded perchance?

The Hard Drive itself could be on the way out.

John mac is right though, if push comes to shove, go through with cancelling where retention folk will probably offer a replacement box to keep you as a subscriber.

Maybe there's only 2 programmes in Anytime now after you formatted the hard drive.

Cant see anywhere on the front of the box to indicate the make.

It does appear that there is a problem with the hard drive and I suppose like most things once there is a small problem it will lead to something more serious.

I used that option a few years ago so Im not sure if its possible to do it again. The biggest problem I have with canceling is that Im on a half price package for 12 months - no contract as such other than the usual 30 days notice but if I cancel I loose the package.

I sent them a very "thought provoking" email earlier and as the 2 young lads were interested in the multiroom AGAIN (they'll be paying if I go for it) I decided to put a couple of questions to them.

    Sit back and enjoy :)
    Account Number: xxxxxxxxxx

A couple of questions: (1) My sky+ HD box appears to be faulty. As it is out of warranty would Sky consider supplying me with a free replacement HD box.

    (2) I am considering installing multiroom. As I am currently getting a reduced rate package would I qualify for a reduced rate on multiroom or indeed would going for multiroom affect my present discounted package. I was told at the time I couldnt change the package but mutiroom is something separate from the package I assume.

    (3) If I did opt for multiroom is there an installation charge and can I get a Sky+ box.

Subject to a positive response to the above perhaps we could do some form of a deal for a new HD box and a Sky+ box for the mutiroom

    Thanks
The world loves a tryer :D
