    Hi Guys,

Do you have any experience with upgrading Cranksets?
I am planning to replace my FSA SL-K Light Carbon BB30 Chainset with a Sram Red BB30 Chainset. The question is - can I just swap the Crankset, i.e. is the FSA BB30 bottom bracket compatible with Sram cranks? Do I have to buy any other components for the conversion?

    Thanks.

    Hi Seweryn,

I changed out my specialized BB30 crankset for a Sram last year and found I needed some spacers/washers. You may already have them with your FSA...

Here's a link, I got mine from cycleways in Dublin 25euro maybe. The bearings are included but I kept my original ones...

    Is it a Cannondale?

Yes, it is the SuperSix Rival 2010.

Thank you Mellon for that, I will get these just in case.

By the way, how do you find the Sram crankset, is it any good especially in terms of outer ring stiffeness, etc?

I went with the Sram Red Compact also and find it great, never noticed a problem with flexing. But I did suffer a few chain drops...probably down more to my own stupidity when it comes to shifting. But I bought myself one of theses and haven't dropped the chain since:

The installation of the Compact was straightforward but the removal of the standard was a bit harder. I think it was a long 8mm allen key for the removal of the specialized crankset (had to use it with a sprocket set) as it needed a bit of force to open.

The BB30 bearings stayed in place so I didn't have to mess around with them. You need a special tool for their removal, so I'd suggest a bike shop if your replacing them.

The Install of the Sram was with a 10 or 12mm allen key and very easy.

That is a great idea. Thanks!

I am probably going to replace my crankset with the standard size 53T/39T chainrings (as original) rather than compact size and that's why I am a bit worried about the flexing. There are some reviews on-line mention this problem.
