Hi, my wife and I desperately want to send our children to a Gaelscoil. We live in Walkinstown, do not have a Gaelscoil in our area, and have been unsuccessful in a number of school applications (Scoil Camogie, Scoil Mologa, Scoil Inse Chor, Scoil Clun Dolchan). We are waiting on scoil Santain but not holding out a lot of hope.

We are now considering not starting our son in school until next September and in the meantime sending him to a Naíonra.

My wife called Scoil Caithlín Maude today and they told us we would have a good chance of being successful in 2012.

As all other schools are jammers this struck us as being a little strange. I would appreciate any experiences and feedback from this school, from past pupils, muinteors etc? Basically we are trying to determine if it is a good school.

If there is a greater demand for places in the area than there are places available in the local gaelscoileanna then I'd suggest setting up a new Gaelscoil. I know that there are a number of parents in the area who are interested in setting up a new gaelscoil.

Contact the Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge, the main patron body for new Gaelscoileanna. Details available at http://www.foras.ie/

I'm thinking of setting one up with a few parents to cater for the Fairview, Marino, Donnycarney and Clontarf areas.

Thanks Feirsteach, there were plans to open a Gaelscoil in Crumlin, Gaelscoil Oisin. It was supposed to open in 2009 and a site was secured but unfortunately a decision was made by the then Minister for Education Batt O'Kiev not to fund any new schools so it never got off the ground. It's desperately disappointing given the level of interest in the area.

Anyway that's why we are now looking outside of our area and have come across Scoil Chaitlin Maude.
