Full respray, how much should it cost, roughly?

I got a near mint Ford Capri from my father in law, the only problem is it is a dirty shade of beige... How much should I expect to pay for a full respray?. I want a rough idea before I go for any quotes.

a proper respray, windows out, panals off, trimmings off, engine bay included, maybe 3k at least imo.

Any other option?. That is probably more than the car itself is worth.

You might get an exterior only re-spray for around €1,000, other option would be a vinyl wrap.

Or, a bit of compound and embrace the 70's beigeness :D

Maybe you could save some of the cost by doing the prep work yourself? Take off all the trim, windows etc., do the masking. I'd bet that's where a fair bit of the cost of respraying comes from.

Just completed a 1972 classic. Got the entire body done in and out. That included sand blasting back to metal, small bit of welding tidy up some car-cancer. Primer and coats. I don't pretend to know about spraying but it was euro5200 for the lot. I supplied the car on old wheels as a rolling chassis with nothing except metal and bare suspension components to keep the4 wheels on..:D

The car is showroom condition. Fingers crossed she'll last another 30 years. :)

Most of it comes from the prep of preparing the actual paint and sorting out the little imperfections in the bodywork pre painting :)

This is very true. Forgot to mention that. Loads of time filling, sanding, filling sanding.......

Be warned: cheap is cheap. By that I mean that a machine car wash may take some of it off, and leave "stripes". Have read about some people here and consumer issues who's paint was removed after a "cleaner at a supermarket car park" destroyed their cars paintwork, not so long after they got the garage to put a new layer of paint on it.

remember that an original colour, even if not perfect, usually adds to the vehicle - changing the colour makes it just another 'done up' one. Sometimes, an original is best -flaws and all.

If it's rusty, grand, but I wouldn't do it just to change the colour.

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

The price of a respray is not something that can be answered in straight forward way.
    Outer shell or full shell?
    Colour change or not
    Condition of shell?

PLUS how much are you willing do do yourself too? Some people will drop off a car to a bodyshop complete and say they want a full shell respray. Others like the above poster will drop off a bare shell and point out what work he wants/needs completed in what way and all details.

So you can go from 1k to 5k. As a rough guide an outer shell with windows out and no more you're talking 2-2.5k ish and the more work you want the more it increases.
