    hi

i am moving to Vietnam in about 10 days. I have 3 external hardrives that I want to bring with me. What are the pitfalls, eg.
    check-in or carry-on?
    metal detector at airport?
    xray scanner at airport?

does anybody have any experience with this?

    Tom

You should always carry on hard drives.

There is a chance that they will either get damaged or might get stolen if you check them into the hold.

Airport detectors will not cause any problems to your data.

Carry on without any doubt, just put the cables in the stowed bags to reduce what your carrying :)

In the UK / US they can search your drives and demand passwords if they are passworded

if you have gmail or similar upload essential stuff (passworded) there in case anything happens the drives

treat the drives like eggs , wrap in clothes or something soft and don't put near outside of bag to protect from knocks etc.
