If anyone knew what it was like - and whether it was worth holding off a trip to Paris in order to be there for Bastille Day, that'd be much appreciated info. Cheers!

There will be some special events on but from what I remember it didn't seam to be a huge deal (as in I wouldn't compare it to paddy day here or Independence day in the U.S.) There is big fireworks displays and Bal du 14 juillet a big dance party with live music. I've heard that there is also a military parade but I didn't see that.

I personally would avoid Bastille Day, or at least certain locations, since I don't like crowds, but I know many people like it. The Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower area is where the people are, so I would head somewhere else - maybe up to Montmartre or the Latin Quarter,or even out of Paris.

I was there last year for Basteille day and the millitary parade was fantastic. Down by the champs elysees is the best place to see it. But get there early.

At night there is normally a fireworks display. It is close to the eiffel tower. You have two options. The 1st stay by the tower, but be there early to get a view. The 2nd, go up monmartre hill and look down on the fireworks, There is a spot to the left of Sacre Coure that has a perfect view of the tower and fireworks, but get there a little early as it will get busy. We chose option 2 last year.

Other than that it is like a normal day in Paris.
