17 yr old learner - what do we need to know

My daughter is going to learn to drive soon, shes 16 but we are planning her first car already and lessons as soon as she reaches 17 (is that how old she has to be?) I know about the Theory Test but what else do we need to take note of..There are a few new laws since last year. Thanks

So has the learner permit replaced the provisional licence or is it additional.
shes not 17 for a year so will have to get one.

LP has replaced Provisional.
